What does it mean to be a Christian? What does it mean to be a Presbyterian? What are the building blocks of our faith, and how do they support and guide us in the 21st century?

This summer, we’ll be looking at these questions and I’ll be preaching a sermon series entitled “Articles of Faith.” We won’t be able to cover everything, but I hope these sermons will be a starting point for deepening faith and exploration. I’m looking forward to worshiping with you!

Greetings from the Sunday School Class led by Chuck Lewis.

Thought for the week: If within us we have nothing above us, we soon succumb to what is around us.
Last week's Old Testament Quiz: After Jonah was rescued from the fish to whom did God tell him to go and preach?
Answer: Jonah went to the very large city of Nineveh and all the people including the king repented. Jonah was unhappy because he wanted the wicked people punished.
This week's Old Testament Quiz: During the formation of Israel in the promised land what female became both a judge and prophetess?
During last week's lesson we read five different scriptures stating that God was gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, and ready to relent from punishing. God was showing this love and encouraging us to forgive others even when they may not deserve it.
We begin our summer lessons this week entitled "God's Urgent Call". Our first lesson involves the lady in this week's quiz. Background scriptures come from Hebrews and Judges. Join us in the Conference Room this Sunday at 10:00 AM and learn how this Old Testament lesson applies to you.

On Monday, June 5th at 11:00 am, the Ladies of Old Stone will be hosting a baby shower at Fruits of Labor Café in Rainelle, WV. Kachina attended our church over the past year as a student at Davis Stuart. She is a wonderful young Christian lady. Please come out for lunch, cake and fellowship in support of her and her baby boy! Please call Amy Brown to RSVP, 304-676-1468.

Come among us, Jesus, You whom the angels worship
and children welcome. Come, Jesus, and meet us here.

Come among us, Jesus You who hurled the stars into space
and shaped the spider’s weaving. Come, Jesus, and meet us here.

Come among us, Jesus, You who walked the long road to Bethlehem
and lit a flame that dances forever. Come, Jesus, and meet us here. Amen.

Hymn #127 “Come, O Spirit” Boundless Mercy

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession (unison)
Merciful, mighty God, you poured your Spirit upon gathered disciples
creating bold tongues, open ears, and a new community of faith.
We confess that we hold back the force of your Spirit among us.
We do not hear the fullness of your grace, speak the totality of your love,
or live as a people made one in Christ.
Have mercy on us, O God.
Transform our timidity by the power of your Spirit,
Fill us with determination to be your faithful people,
doing your will for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
Leader: Hear and believe the good news of the gospel.
People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

Gloria Patri Hymn #579
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

Affirmation of Faith From a Brief Statement of Faith, 1991
We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life.
The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith,
sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor,
and binds us together with all believers
in the one body of Christ, the church.
The same Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles
rules our faith and life in Christ through Scripture,
engages us through the Word proclaimed,
claims us in the waters of baptism,
feeds us with the bread of life and the cup of salvation,
and calls women and men to all ministries of the church.
In a broken and fearful world the Spirit gives us courage
to pray without ceasing,
to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior,
to unmask idolatries in church and culture,
to hear the voices of peoples long silenced,
and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace.
In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit,
we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives,
even as we watch for God's new heaven and new earth,
praying, Come, Lord Jesus!
With believers in every time and place,
we rejoice that nothing in life or in death
can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Call to Prayer “Amazing Grace”

Prayer of the People and the Lord’s Prayer
…..Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Hymn #129 “Come, O Spirit, Dwell Among Us“ Ebenezer
Leader: The peace of Christ be with you.
People: And also with you

And give you peace, and give you peace.
The Lord make his face to shine upon you,

be gracious, the Lord be gracious,
gracious unto you.
Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen,
Amen, Amen, Amen.
