Good morning!
I’m writing this article from Kansas City, Missouri where I’ll be for a few days attending the Next Church national gathering. What is Next Church? I’m glad you asked….
“NEXT Church is a purposeful relational community of Presbyterian leaders whose mission is to strengthen a vibrant and thriving PC(USA) that shares the good news of Jesus Christ in ways that matter to and have impact on God’s evolving world.”
“The theme for the 2017 National Gathering is “Wells & Walls: Well-Being in a Thirsty World.” Our guiding scripture is John 4:1-42 – the Samaritan woman at the well. In John 4 we are told of Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well, her encounter with her people, and Jesus’ words to the disciples. In the person and story of Jesus Christ we see movement across barriers, new understanding, and life-giving transformation as a consistent pattern. As we look toward the 2017 National Gathering, as we invite local congregations and regional leadership to come together in the nation’s heartland of Kansas City, we recognize there are many walls and wells that manifest in our lives.”
I serve on the advisory committee for this organization and am looking forward to learning, listening, and worshipping over the next few days! If you need to reach me, please call the church office. I’m also available by email or cell phone.
Two other updates:
We have digital files! The documents stored by the Presbyterian Historical Society have been converted into PDF files. Session records, sermons, and much more- if you’d like your own digital copy to read, please be in touch and we will get them to you!

What’s up with the roof? The Property Committee isn’t yet ready to make a recommendation to the Session. They are studying the many different options in terms of cost, longevity, and historical appropriateness. When they are ready to make their recommendation, we will be having a meeting everyone will be invited to attend to learn more and ask questions. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to ask Chuck Plumley (chair of the property committee) or any of the members of this committee your questions.

See you soon!
Rev. Anna

Greetings from the Sunday School Class led by Chuck Lewis.

Thought for the week: We fear being sued, finishing last, going broke, and the sound of the clock as it ticks us closer to the grave. What if faith, not fear, was our default reaction to threats?
Last week's Genesis quiz was: Where did Joseph next show up and what bad thing happened?
Answer: The Midianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, one of Pharoah's officers. Joseph rose quickly to be household overseer because Potiphar knew that the Lord made Joseph prosper. After many sexual attempts made by Potiphar's wife and resisted by Joseph, a false accusation by her landed Joseph in prison.
This week's Genesis Quiz is: How long was Joseph in prison and why was he released?
Last week in our lesson was the statement that God's generosity is like experiencing the best Christmas Day ever; we receive a gift that is so well suited to us, so delightful, that we never thought we could have. We were also asked this question: What can we do as a church to share God's grace with others, particularly those who may not know that God loves them? Please share any thoughts with me about this. I would also be happy to share our answers. This week we will learn how abiding in God's love can cause us to do great things and can help us achieve the peace in our lives that only Christ can give. Our background scriptures come from John, Psalms, 1 Peter, 1 and 2 John, and Ephesians. Come learn with us this Sunday at 10:00 AM in the Conference Room.

Affirmation of Faith The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
